Quality Engineer - Ely, Cambridgeshire, Cambridgeshire
Our client is looking for an accomplished Quality Engineer to grow a strong quality culture in a dynamic global company. The ideal candidate must have good communication skills and a deep understanding of quality and how it pertains to the photonics and biosciences market segments.
Responsibilities:
- Manage and mentor a team of production engineers and quality assurance personnel
- Interact with RandD team to ensure best practices on introduction of new product into the value stream
- Continuously improve products and processes internally as well as evaluating and aiding external vendors
- Interface with customers to ensure compliance and resolution of any reported issues
- Strong ability to evaluate products and processes with Six Sigma and Lean practices
- Analyzes root causes of deficiencies and ensures proper corrective actions are implemented in a timely manner
- Participates in cross-functional team efforts to improve products and processes
- Administers Corrective/Preventative Action, and Internal Audit Systems
- Reviews practices, procedures and processes seeking avenues to improve efficiency and effectiveness and reduce risk to product quality
- Leads development, implementation, maintenance and improvement of quality system(s) and processes that ensure that product and process changes are implemented in a correct and timely manner
- Identifies and monitors quality metrics and goals to drive quality improvement efforts
Critical skills, knowledge and abilities:
- Strong knowledge of state-of-the-art quality systems including Six-Sigma
- In-depth knowledge of quality metrics, ISO standards, and processes
- Strong knowledge of motion control mechanics and familiarity with the associated electronics
- Knowledge and understanding of the business processes and how decisions impact customer satisfaction, product quality, and on-time delivery
- Ability to lead a team and coordinate resources to meet quality metrics
- Ability to effectively communicate with a wide variety of internal and external customers and/or suppliers globally
- Ability to read and understand mechanical production drawings
- Familiar with general machining practices and methodologies.
- Ability to use some or all of the following PC applications: MS Office, Axapta and Solidworks.
Qualifications:
- 5-10 years experience in a related industry
- BS or MS degree
